In my writing I have a tendency to write mention towns in
Wisconsin because that's where I live. The Wisconsin landscape is beautiful in
all seasons. The lush greens of Summer and Spring, the multicolor of Fall and
the bright, white snow of winter accented by our beautiful, green, pine trees.
Small town life revolves around working hard, sports and enjoying the outdoors.
Once in awhile we venture out of our comfort of small town life and venture to
the big cities of Wisconsin where there is always something to experience.
Love or hate the Green Bay Packers, they hail from the city of
Green Bay located on the sub-basin of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Fox
River. Green Bay has a population of a little over 105,000 people. It's not the
biggest city in Wisconsin, but it is a lot bigger than my hometown of Spencer,
Wisconsin with under 2000 people. The Packer stadium, known as Lambeau Field,
attracts 170,000 visitors a year for tours of the stadium and the Packer Hall
of Fame. The 376,000 square foot atrium, five stories high makes a beautiful
venue with it's wall of glass showcasing the view of the neighborhood. There is
even a photo opportunity for you to do the Lambeau leap! On game day, there is
seating for 81,441 people and room for many more to tailgate in the parking lot
that do not have tickets for the game. At this time, Green Bay is not eligible
to host a Super Bowl because it does not have enough hotels and restaurants to
meet the requirements of the NFL.
Bay Beach is the Green Bay amusement park. There is no
admission fee or parking fee. Tickets cost $.25. That's right, twenty-five
cents. Some rides require up to four ticket such as the Zippin Roller Coaster.
What an inexpensive, thrilling day for families. Next, take your family the Bay
Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. It is 600 acre wildlife refuge. It has animal
exhibits, educational displays and hiking/skiing trails.
Don't forget to visit the National Railroad Museum. It is just
out of Green Bay in Ashwaubenon a suburb of Green Bay. The museum is the home
of “Big Boy”, the world's largest steam locomotive weighing 1.1 million pounds
and measuring over half a football field in length. “Thomas The Train” makes an
annual appearance giving children the opportunity to ride on their favorite
train.
I love living outside of the small, quiet town of Spencer,
Wisconsin while still having the opportunity to experience the activities of
larger cities. Being an outdoor, country girl, I wouldn't be able to endure the
chaos of the city on a regular basis and friends I have that love the city
life, find our country experience something they only want to do once or twice
a year.
Come meet my small town girls in, D.I.C.KS Case: One Holy Murder. With
humor and a little love along the way, the newly formed D.I.C.KS., Dames
Investigating Crimes and Killers, stumble upon a prescription drug ring after
their pastor is kidnapped and learn people are not what they seem. Available at
