Virginia is for Lovers. That’s the tourism and travel slogan
created by the Commonwealth of Virginia. But 14 Virginia crime writers had
murder in mind when they played on the 50 year-old catchphrase with Virginia is for Mysteries, an anthology
featuring stories set in the Old Dominion.
Virginia is for Mysteries is a fictional tour
guide though various Virginia landmarks, each of which provides a setting for a
tale of dark passions and murder.
Hank Phillippi Ryan, Agatha, Anthony, Macavity, and Mary Higgins
Clark award-winning author, has these words of praise for Virginia is for Mysteries:
“Creepy, diabolical, and completely delightful! Who knew these otherwise charming authors could be so cleverly sinister? One after the other, these terrific and twisty tales tantalize you, tease you, and surprise you!”
As you “travel” vicariously through the state you’ll visit
notable sights that include the Cape Henry Lighthouse and Cavalier Hotel in
Virginia Beach; the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk; Henricus Historical Park
in Chester; Monticello in Charlottesville, and the Kent-Valentine House,
Hollywood Cemetery, Virginia General Assembly, and St. John’s Church, all in
Richmond.
All contributing authors are members of the Central Virginia and
Mystery by the Sea - Coastal Virginia chapters of Sisters in Crime, a national
crime writers organization. I’m proud to have my story,
“A Not So Genteel Murder,” set at the beautiful Kent-Valentine House, in this
stellar collection.
Virginia is for Mysteries was published in 2014 by Koehler Books. Many of the same
authors returned in Virginia is for
Mysteries II, published n 2016, but there’s plenty of new writing talent.
Who knows ... you may find your next favorite author!

Sounds like a great anthology, Maggie. But I didn't realize Virginia was such a diabolical place. When I think of it I think of the humidity. If the bullet doesn't kill you the humidity will ;-) .
ReplyDeletePaul, we have endless ways to kill here in Virginia, humidity certainly being one ;-)
